Formula One Group: The Race for Environmental Sustainability by 2030
Abstract
At the end of the 2024 racing season, the management team of the Formula One Group was celebrating the successful year that had concluded with both the high level of racing entertainment and the motorsport’s strong financial results. Reflecting on their goals and achievements for the coming year, the management team agreed upon a net-zero carbon footprint goal for the Formula 1 (F1) racing series by 2030. There were only five years left to achieve the ‘countdown to zero’ as outlined in the organization’s first-ever sustainability strategy. This deadline aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which outlined 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that call for action by all countries to improve sustainability for people and the planet including tackling climate change.
